College Admissions, Engineering
Nearly 14,000 students attend the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, and that’s an ideal size for students who want the advantages of a large research university with the familiar feel of a college where the faculty know your name. Read on to find out why we’re the right size for you.
Our campus is walkable
We have miles of walking and bike paths that wind through beautiful groves of pine trees. At USA, you have enough time to walk from the Humanities building to the Chemistry building in time for your lab (they’re actually next door to each other, so how easy is that?). Hungry after Chem lab? You can grab a bite to eat at the food court at the Student Center, about a hundred yards away. And our awesome Student Recreation Center is about a five-minute walk from all our residence halls.
One-on-One Advising
Academic advising will be critical to your success, and we have plenty of advisors ready to help you with the information you need to make thoughtful decisions about your college career, such as deciding upon your major or solving any roadblocks you may encounter along the way. Need another point of view? Our Jag Student Support Network consists of fellow students who can offer advice and guidance.
Vibrant student life
Thousands of students mean more organizations to join — more than 230, in fact — which means more activities to do and more friends to meet. We also have a great Greek Life program as well as many intramural sports. And more than 2,300 of your fellow students live right here on campus.
Networking
Alumni of mid-size universities often enjoy a tight bond for life, and our graduates hold leadership positions in business, government and nonprofit organizations. Who knows? You may get that future dream job thanks to a fellow Jag.
Forget high school
Students at smaller colleges often report feeling like they are “in the 13th grade.” If high school wasn’t exactly the high point of your life, rest assured that when you step foot on South’s campus, there are thousands of new people, places and things to discover.
Opportunities abound
At a research university like USA, there are hundreds of ways to get involved in campus life and the community. From outdoor recreation to scholarships and internships, something is bound to be a great fit for you.
Variety of academic majors
South offers more than 100 academic programs, including a variety of majors that encompass the humanities, business, healthcare, computer science and five different engineering departments. There’s something for everyone here at South.
Awesome athletics
There isn’t a better place on campus to cheer on our Jags football team than our brand new, 25,000-seat Hancock Whitney Stadium, right in the middle of campus. We also have great baseball and softball stadiums, and the Mitchell Center arena is home to basketball, concerts, shows and more.
Great student to professor ratio
Unlike the huge universities with tens of thousands of students, at South you won’t ever sit in a lecture hall with — no joke — a thousand other students. You’ll really feel like a person to your professors, and not just another name on a roster.
State-of-the-art facilities
USA is growing faster than ever, and the campus is expanding to keep up. We just added a new simulation building for healthcare majors and opened our new football stadium. Every year, new facilities, buildings, and amenities are being added to keep students, faculty, and staff happy, healthy, and engaged.
Now you know why USA is the ideally sized university for your college experience. Schedule a campus tour and come see it for yourself!
