Campus Life
At the University of South Alabama, we get a lot of attention for our outstanding undergraduate programs. But did you know we also offer many graduate programs at both the master’s and doctoral levels? From master’s in occupational therapy, English, mathematics, and speech and hearing sciences, to doctorates in physical therapy, computing, and systems engineering, there’s a postgraduate track for every student at South.
Here’s a closer look at some of our departments and their graduate offerings.
Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport
Kinesiology, or the study of the body’s movement, is a fascinating field. The USA Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport offers master's degrees in exercise science, health education (6-12) teacher certification, physical education (P-12) teacher certification, health, and sport management (fully online). Graduates from these programs can venture into fields such as elementary and secondary health/physical education, athletic training, health and fitness, coaching, and athletic administration.
Department of Leadership and Teacher Education
After earning an undergraduate degree in their content area or in education, students often want to be able to further their content mastery or knowledge base in education. South’s Leadership and Teacher Education department offers several Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees that lead to Alabama Class A Certification in fields such as Art Education, Instructional Leadership, Elementary Education, Special Education, and more. Do you have a goal of leading a school community as a principal? USA offers an M.Ed. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in higher education leadership, as well as a Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership.
Department of Marine Sciences
Our coastal environment is ideal for studying marine sciences, so it’s no surprise that the University of South Alabama offers many opportunities for advanced education in this area. You can earn an MS or a Ph.D. degree from USA in marine sciences and tailor your degree to specializations in biological, chemical, physical, and geological oceanography, as well as marine fisheries and ecology.
Mitchell College of Business
Didn’t major in business in undergrad? That’s okay. The USA Mitchell College of Business offers an M.B.A. program that is open to non-business undergraduates — all you need to do is take a few preparation courses. This flexible 30-credit-hour program offers one or two-year options and allows students to tailor their curriculum to suit specific needs and interests. For those who want to pursue a career in academia, USA has a Ph.D. in Business Administration.
These are only a few of the excellent opportunities South offers our students after they earn their undergraduate degrees. Interested? Schedule a campus tour and see South for yourself.
