Campus Life
Let’s face it: sometimes college can be a challenging adjustment. With added freedom comes more responsibility. Fortunately, USA provides students with many resources that help them stay on track and navigate the ins and outs of university life. Check out 10 of the resources on campus that students find the most helpful during their time at the University of South Alabama:
Academic Advising and Transfer Services
Academic advisors are some of the most valuable staff members to new students, and the people you might be spending the most time with during your first year. Advisors assist in course selection and degree planning to make sure you continue on a smooth path towards graduation.
Career Services
The Career Services office is invaluable in helping students explore career opportunities, develop marketable skills, build a competitive resume and navigate the employment search. The office offers individual consultations and assessments and resume reviews, and connects students to employers through internships and fairs.
First-Year Experience
There’s a lot to learn about “how to college,” and your FYE course will bring you up to speed pronto. First-Year Experience courses may be required for your major and are all about opening your eyes to new ways of thinking that will get you far in your college education.
USA One Stop
At the University of South Alabama, there’s a shortcut for students with questions about everything from financial aid to academic resources to campus activities. It’s called One Stop. The office and its website make problem-solving more convenient so students can focus on school and make the most of their college experience.
Center for Academic Excellence
We all need a little extra help sometimes, and the Center for Academic Excellence makes it incredibly simple for students to access the tutors and other support staff. From writing assistance and academic subject help, success strategies, and even time management, our peer coaches provide students with support in every facet of university life.
The Writing Center
Most college courses require a great deal of writing, and the Writing Center specializes in assisting students in every phase of the writing process, from brainstorming to revision and everything in between. As part of the Center for Academic Excellence, the Writing Center provides high quality resources to the entire campus community.
USA Bookstore
The bookstore in the Student Center is your place to go for everything from snacks, textbooks, Jag gear, and more.
Student Recreation Center
Exercise doesn’t have to just be plodding along on the treadmill or hurling around weights. USA’s Student Recreation Center is home to a 35-foot tall x 65-foot wide rock wall. The best thing? You don’t need any experience — we’ve got instructors to help you get your climb on!
Outdoor Adventures
Paddle a river, explore a cave, or camp out on the beach on one of our Outdoor Adventures. Trips are offered in the fall, spring, and summer, and equipment checkout is available at any time. Stand-up paddleboard and whitewater rafting trips are just a few of the amazing opportunities we offer our students.
Club Sports and Intramurals
You don't have to be a student-athlete to play sports at South Alabama. Our intramural program offers flag football, soccer, cricket, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, and rock climbing, to name a few. South has specific fields dedicated to these intramural sports for students who want to participate in a little friendly competition.
Wherever you walk on our beautiful campus, you’ll find friendly faces that are here to assist you in every stage of your college education. Schedule a campus tour and come find out why USA is the university for you.
