4 Types of Scholarship Opportunities

At the University of South Alabama, we believe in doing what we can to help our students fulfill their educational dreams. To make this possible, we provide hundreds of scholarship opportunities available to USA students, especially for freshmen just joining JagNation!

Freshman Scholarships

Our new Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative has made it even easier for us to award scholarships to our incoming freshmen students. Although the amount of aid differs depending upon high school performance and test scores, if you’re a first-time freshman with at least a 3.0 GPA and a 21 on the ACT who has been fully admitted by December 1, you are guaranteed a scholarship award. The higher the GPA and score, the more aid a student will receive. All qualifying applicants are automatically submitted for consideration.

Major-Specific Scholarships

Many colleges and departments across campus offer their own scholarships, specific to their students and majors. For example, qualified Business majors can apply to the Abraham Mitchell Business Scholars Program, a four-year scholarship that includes faculty mentorship and a laptop computer. The College of Arts and Sciences hosts the Alabama Broadcasters Association Endowed Scholarship, intended to provide support to students pursuing a degree in communication with a focus of study in either radio or television. Once admitted to the University, make sure to fill out the General Scholarship Application in JagSPOT to be considered for any and all opportunities.

Study Abroad Scholarships

One of our initiatives states that all students are encouraged to study abroad at some point in their educational career at South. In fact, our Office of International Education has their own in-house scholarship fund that offers $100,000 worth of award money only to USA study abroad students! Additionally, many departments offer scholarships to their specific majors to travel and learn abroad.

Transfer Scholarships

Students who are not first-time college students can also apply for scholarships, as well. USA offers several scholarships to transfer students, whether from community colleges or other institutions, both out-of-state and in-state.
