Campus Life, Academics
There is A LOT happening at South right now. From new construction to student happenings, there’s definitely plenty for you to check out while you’re in Mobile for your campus tour.
While you’re here, make sure to check out these spots or ask about them. Campus tour guides or a current student would be happy to tell you about their experiences!
This is where a lot of students spend their free time. The rec center has an awesome pool where students can take a study break or relax on weekends.
If working out is your thing, the rec center is a great place to exercise. They have everything your fitness routine needs. From equipment to classes, there is something for everyone regardless of your fitness level.
So many options! South’s campus has lots of great spots for students to grab a meal and hang out with friends between classes. The student center has Chick-fil-A, Pizza Hut, Panda Express, Moe’s Southwest Grill, and Greens to Go.
The student center food court is a fun spot to hang out on evenings and weekends too. They host all kinds of events including trivia nights, cookouts, comedy shows, movie nights, and karaoke nights.
If you want to make new friends or just have some fun after class, sign up for an intramural sport. You don’t have to be an expert to play. Just pick a sport you love or want to learn how to play and sign up! You can play inner tube water polo, oozeball (volleyball in the mud), kickball, volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, and flag football. Bonus: the fields are brand new for Fall 2018!
The beautiful surroundings.
South’s campus is only an hour from the beach! You and your friends can make a quick weekend trip down to one of the nearby beaches. Grab your beach towel, sunscreen, a good book, and you’re on your way to a relaxing day at the beach.
If you like a little more activity on your weekends, you should check out Outdoor Adventures! They go on trips throughout the year and even have equipment, like kayaks or camping gear, that students can rent. The great thing is that you don’t have to be an outdoor expert to go on these trips. They have instructors to help you choose the right equipment or guide you throughout the trip. Some of the trips include camping, moonlight paddle trips, and swimming with manatees!
The Jag Fitness Trail.
This trail is incredible! The trail weaves through parts of South’s beautiful campus and is great for a walk or jog. There are stations scattered throughout where you can stop to stretch or workout. In Mobile the weather is warm for most of the year, so students are able to utilize the Jag Fitness Trail year round.
The list doesn't stop there. There are always something fun to do on campus or nearby. If you’ve got a campus tour coming up, be sure to ask about these things!
