Campus Tour (Student)

Myth #1: It’s expensive - Many students are intimidated by the cost of study abroad, but what they may not realize is that financial aid will often cover tuition wherever you are. It’s always important to visit the Financial Aid office to make sure. There are numerous scholarships to apply for, as well. Some programs will even give any eligible student funds towards their study abroad.

Myth #2: It’s intimidating - Don’t be afraid! The programs are usually full of either students from your own school or others around the country. Immediately after disembarking the flight, you’re a part of a larger group. Students who have studied abroad report staying lifelong friends with some of their classmates.

Myth #3: Credits won’t transfer - Study abroad programs have specific advisors who check and double check that your credits will count for the requirements for your major. Universities want you to study abroad and to gain valuable credit for your time spent in another country.

Myth #4: The quality of education isn’t the same - Many programs are actually led by faculty from the home school, so the quality of instruction is exactly the same as it would be at the home institution.

Myth #5: You don’t get to see much outside of your classes -  Most study abroad trips incorporate travel and sightseeing into the itinerary. For example, you may take a Greek isles cruise or hike to Mount Olympus if studying in Greece. The purpose of studying abroad is to experience a new culture and environment.
